Long Lake Overview

Long Lake is a 307.9-acre lowland lake at 160 feet elevation on the eastern edge of Lacey, in Thurston County. Its center sits at roughly 47.0217° N, 122.7806° W — the largest of the lakes around Lacey.

Unlike Hicks Lake, Long Lake is open to fishing year-round, and it supports both trout and a strong warmwater fishery. The WDFW access site on the lake provides a boat launch and toilets, and Long Lake Park sits on its shoreline (though fishing is not allowed in the park).

The lake is bordered by established residential development, with the city of Lacey wrapping its western and northern shores.

Fishing & Recreation

Season: Long Lake is open year-round. Check WDFW's current sportfishing rules and emergency rule changes before you go.

Trout: WDFW describes good opportunity to harvest rainbow trout from nine to 11 inches, with typically fair opportunity for carry-over rainbows from 13 to 16 inches. No catchable trout plants have been reported in recent years — the lake is primarily managed as a year-round warmwater fishery.

Warmwater fish: Harvest opportunity for yellow perch, pumpkinseed sunfish, largemouth bass, rock bass, brown bullhead catfish, and common carp.

Two-pole fishing is allowed with the appropriate endorsement.

Boating: The WDFW access provides a boat launch and two toilets. There are no hand launches or fishing platforms at the WDFW site; some shore fishing access is available near the boat ramp.

Public Access

Long Lake has two main public access points:

  • WDFW Long Lake Water Access Site — boat launch, parking, and two toilets, with some shore fishing access near the ramp. A Discover Pass or WDFW Vehicle Access Pass is generally required; confirm current requirements with WDFW.
  • Long Lake Park (City of Lacey) — lakeside park on the shoreline. Fishing is not allowed at Long Lake Park, per WDFW and Lacey Parks and Recreation.

WDFW rates shoreline access at Long Lake as good, primarily at the WDFW boat launch.
