Two big birthdays: Lacey turns 60 as America turns 250
2026 marks both America's 250th birthday and Lacey's 60th year since incorporation in 1966 — a milestone The JOLT's Shirley Stirling celebrated in a recent column.
Lacey, WA
Lacey is marking a milestone year. As The JOLT News' Shirley Stirling noted in her Aug. 26, 2026 column, 2026 brings two big birthdays: America at 250 — and Lacey at 60.
Lacey was incorporated in 1966, transforming from a crossroads community built around schools, farms, and lumber into the South Sound's third-largest city — now home to roughly 58,000 residents, a dozen lakes, and one of the region's busiest retail corridors.
Six decades in, the city that grew around the intersection of College Street and Pacific Avenue is still growing — you can see the current chapter in the Development Tracker and the neighborhood guides in our Knowledge Map.
