What's Being Built Near Hicks Lake? Two Apartment Projects, Still in Permitting
Two apartment complexes totaling 310 units are planned along Hicks Lake — Hicks Lake Apartments (178 units) and Gayteway at Hicks Lake (132 units). Here's where each stands.
Hicks Lake, Lacey, WA
Hicks Lake is about to get a lot more neighbors. Two apartment projects are moving along its shores, and together they account for about 310 rental units.
What we know
Hicks Lake Apartments (City project #21-0081) — a 178-unit, three-building complex on the west shore of Hicks Lake (4.98 acres), with two recreational structures, an in-ground pool and spa, a sport court, picnic shelters, and shoreline access. The applicant of record in the SEPA file is Graves & Associates. The project is fully entitled per the developer's marketing, and a civil permit has been obtained.
Gayteway at Hicks Lake (City project #20-190) — a 132-unit complex with an amenity building, recreation building, pool, and Hicks Lake access. As of The Olympian's 2026 development roundup, a building permit was still under review for this project.
Both projects sit within sight of a lake that Lacey recently invested in restoring — the shoreline at the apartment site has been improved, and the Hicks Lake Apartments site includes a private dock.
What we don't know yet
- Whether vertical construction has actually started on either complex — the City's records show permits rather than completed construction.
- Rents, unit mix, or leasing dates — none announced.
